GAME JOURNALS

Hey everyone! Welcome back to my game journal series. I actually implemented quite a few things this week, which I'm excited about! I'm finally starting to feel like working on this game a lot more, so yeah. Pretty cool!

First, life update. I made a Strawpage account. For those of you who don't know, it's a website builder that lets people send messages and drawings anonymously. A lot of my friends on Twitter had one, so I figured, why not? And amazingly, I got a ton of art from my friends! Check it out:

Aren't they all so cool?! You may have noticed they're mostly all of the same character... that's because I draw him on Twitter a lot. Haha. One day I'll get stuff related to my game, I'm sure. Here is the link to my Strawpage if you want to send art or a question! haxdev's strawpage

I kinda mentioned this before, but Twitter has been amazing for my mental health as an artist. For a really long time I wanted to have art friends, but I'm rather introverted so I never had many. By that, I mean someone that I can draw with, or exchange art, or just talk about art together. On Deviantart I would make friends like that, but they'd either stop posting or move to another website. So for a really long time I felt alone artistically. Little did I know that Twitter would change all that! What's really funny is that I made my Twitter account for marketing my game only, I never intended to post art there. But then I saw a lot of artists posting there, so I thought, "why not?" Now it's my main social media platform, and I've made so many friends. I feel a lot happier nowadays because of it!

OK, game update time. What's new this week? Well, let's get into it!

Firstly, I added paw's drawing of Joe to the detective office. I figure it's a good prize for whoever wins the art contest each year. So, the detective office will slowly get more and more paintings! Isn't that exciting?

Secondly, I finally, FINALLY started adding in the functionality for changing the game's inputs. It's not quite ready yet, but the UI is all done. All I have to do is make it work!

Thirdly, I cleaned up a lot of UI. The Achievements and Help sections both look much better now! Additionally, the achievements are now implemented in the game. Of course, I have to upload a new build for you to get them, but they all work. It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Lastly, I added a new function to the game: the ability to pray at the church. Praying will restore the party's HP and MP. Now there's three locations where you can restore your health: the church, the inn, and the hot springs. The player can choose one based on proximity or preference. It's nice to be able to choose, I think!

So yeah, that's what I did this week. Not gonna lie, getting everything ironed out was kinda tiring... especially the key bindings and prayer feature. So next update might just be art related. We'll see.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed this week's update, and here's the video of me going over the new items in depth.
