GAME JOURNALS

Hey everyone! Welcome back to my game journal series. This week I don't really have anything new, it's more of a life update. Hence the decimal in the title. There's quite a bit so I'll explain as best as I can.

First of all, I'm going on hiatus for a short time (maybe a week and a half) to work on an animation. As soon as it's done, I'll post a link in my next journal, too! It's gonna be so cool, you'll see. I mean it, I think it'll be the best animation I've made so far. I'm really excited! And of course, as soon as I'm done with it it'll be right back into game stuff as usual.

Secondly, my eye condition has returned. I don't talk about it very much so many of you probably don't know, but I have a genetic eye disease called Best's disease. It's a form of macular degeneration that happens when you're younger instead of older. For me, it causes central vision loss.

I began having symptoms about five years ago. By the time I noticed, I'd already lost the central vision in my left eye, so it couldn't be saved. Thankfully my right eye was completely fine, so I had perfect vision unless I looked all the way to the left (the brain is amazing in that it automatically angles my left eye to use its peripheral vision so I can see a complete picture.) But a few months after that I started losing vision in my right eye too. Thankfully, there is a medical procedure that can reverse the effects if it hasn't progressed too far. I used to have to get that done every month for my right eye, or else I would start losing vision again. Then, near the end of 2023 I got an injection and that time my vision stabilized. I was really happy about it.

Unfortunately, since Wednesday I've started losing vision again. Thankfully it's really small and not progressing very fast. I actually didn't have health insurance (when I applied before I was making too much money due to having 2 jobs and it would've cost 400$ a month) but now that I have one job I can get healthcare for free. So I'm waiting to hear back on that. I already know it covers the eye procedure (I got a few done when I first moved here) so yeah. My only worry is that it won't be approved in time so that my vision can go back to how it was. (Without insurance the shot costs $2,300.)

So yeah. I'm not too worried about it but if something does happen I wanted to let you guys know beforehand. Also if you want to learn more about my eye condition here's an article on it. What is Best Disease? — Foundation Fighting Blindness

Anyways, other than that life has been good. Recently I've started cooking with onions, cabbage, and potatoes. They're so cheap, and last so long! You can make soup, stir fry them, anything. And it's good for losing weight too, you can put a ton of vegetables with a small amount of meat and it'll taste great.

Next time, I'll have that animation finished, and I might have some more game stuff too (if I get tired of animating.) I'll see you next time!
