Hey guys. Welcome back to my game journal series. Been a bit since the last one, but I've actually been working the entire time (albeit slowly.) I finally have enough new stuff to show, so I decided to make a new one.

The main reason behind my slow work pace was the heat. This is only my second summer here, and it's also the first one where I've been home most of the day (as last year I worked indoors during the hot parts of the day.) Needless to say, the office where I work was cooking. I have an air conditioner and a few fans, but my office would stubbornly stay the same temperature as outside while the rest of the house was cool. I think it was partially because my pc emits heat (and the monitors too). Anyway, it made me tired as soon as I would work, so I did a little bit each day. Finally yesterday I wisened up and remembered that the art school I used to work at had these huge metal fans during the summer to circulate air. So I bought one. And wow, what a difference. There's a study that shows people become more productive after changes in temperature, I think it's right. I managed to get most of what I'm showing here in like, 2 days. Lol.

Anyway, I finished the rough animation for all eight of Joe's directions (idle, walking, running.) The idle is 100% done, walk/run I just have to line and color. Thankfully, the walk/run cycle was easier since it was symmetrical, so I only had to draw for five directions (front, back, left, front-left, back-left.) But unfortunately, I... I am not that good of an artist, so it looks a bit jank. Well, it's my first game, I don't think people will mind.

So yeah, that's about it. I did a bit of coding as well but it was all related to the movement system. Next time I hope to have everything lined and colored!

Also: as soon as I do that, I can revamp the Equips screen. I already know how it's going to look like, too! Since the models are no longer 3D, I can just draw some effects for it and it won't look out of place. I'm a bit excited, but I only want to do it once I'm done with Joe's base movement.

Hopefully I'll have the next journal out within the week! With the fan lifehack I feel a lot more motivated to animate again.
