Game Journal #83- 2D Battle System, Boss Battles, Final House

Hey all! Welcome back to my game journal series. This time, I've finally started working on the battle system again. Woot! More to come soon, but I'll share the details below.

First, life update. I've finally (yeah, I mean it this time) found the house I'm going to purchase. It's a for sale by owner home right near Central Ave (which I really wanted) and it's a good price. Plus, it has a really nice corner lot, and a big shed. The owners are also really nice. Funnily enough, the neighbor next door is an artist. So yeah, that's kinda cool and interesting. The only thing I'm somewhat worried about is the roof, because the owners don't know how old it is and it had a leak in the past. So I might have to replace it within a few years (or months.) I'll know once the inspection gets done, but everything else about the home is kewl. I can definitely see myself living there!

What's also really funny is that as soon as I went under contract with this home, suddenly a huge influx of homes came on the market. Like wth. For weeks it was an absolute wasteland, I'm talking nothing in my price range but overpriced garbage (seriously, one tour agent cancelled on me last minute because he needed preapproval, which I DID have, but he didn't ask for it. WTH?) and my real estate agent wasn't making it much better with how long he took to do things. I really love this for sale by owner thing because I can do all the paperwork myself, so we've been getting things done rather quickly. Anyway, I've been kinda glancing at other homes, but none of them are as good as the one I'm buying. I'm really glad that I happened to find this hidden home that wasn't on Zillow, since it definitely would've gone for over asking.

Now, game stuff! I did quite a bit this week in terms of coding and art. You can see the video for more details, but I'll put an image below.

What's that? Ethan's boss battle, of course! What, you didn't know that Ethan is a boss before he joins? Well now you do! Anyways, I completely remade the code for the battle system to make it 2D. I would never have finished the game if the battles were in 3D. But 2D I can do all day, every day.

I also made the sprites for the slimes, as well as a few more paintings. Watch the video to see everything!
