Hello all! Welcome back to another game journal. It's been a bit since my last one, so I've got a few things to show! Let's get right into it.
First, life update. My new job is going really well. My days off line up, so I get 2 guaranteed days where I can work on my game and get some sleep. It's really awesome! Plus, two weeks' pay covers my mortgage, so I'm also doing well financially. It's pretty nice!
My tarantula also woke up from his hibernation today. I think it was the combination of moving and cold weather, but he stayed in his hide for three months straight without eating/drinking anything. I thought he was dead a few times, but nope, just tarantula things. It's nice to see him moving around again.
Ok, game dev time! Are you ready? Good! Here's a list of things I added since last time:
-Startup movies when you start the game.
-The game's opening movie.
-Small update to the sound room.
-Beginning of the prologue, plus improved animations.
I think that's everything... or there may be more. I need to get into the habit of writing my changelog as I go again. But yeah! I FINALLY finished the opening animation for the game. So that's kewl! Btw, that's why there was such a large gap between updates. I had to animate everything, then edit everything, and also make new music.... oh yeah, let me talk about that for a bit.
While I was making it, I realized that the song I wrote for the opening didn't really fit the visuals, so I had to make yet another one... that's the third song I've written as the opening song, btw. I'll just use the one from before as the credits theme, I guess.
I also started working on the prologue. Here's a preview image:

I'm going for a sketchy feel for the prologue only. It'll be animated! I'm hoping it feels like a storybook sort of thing. At this point, I'm really glad that I drew all those Jane comics for the past year or so. I was really able to refine my more freehandy style by drawing them, which I can use in my game. Unintended success, hooray!
You may have noticed that the Steam page is in the header once again, even though it was supposedly released last journal. Well, guess what? It only launched last week because for some reason, Steam wouldn't let me put my game in Early Access. No matter what I wrote, they denied it and sent it back. This made my page unavailable to be viewed to anyone except myself. In the end, I had to remove the Early Access section entirely and just post it as-is. So it's up now, just without the Early Access tag. Yeah... well, I hope people realize that the game isn't finished yet. Anyway, you can now search it on Steam and download the demo from there.
That all being said, I'll release a new demo once the prologue is done being drawn. Shouldn't take me that long since it's sketchy.
Here's the video showcasing all the new stuff, as usual.
