Hey all! HaxDev here. Merry Christmas! How is your holiday going? Mine is going pretty well. I got some nice presents from my family in the mail, and I made some good progress on the game, too.

That's right, version 1.0 is now out! ...Sorta! Really, it's more like version 0.98, but I said version 1.0 would be out on Christmas, so that's what I had to name it. I do keep my word, people. Anyway, what's new? Let's list it!

  • Many battle improvements, including increased animation speeds.

    • Some of the monsters now have more moves and different resistances.

  • Tons more finished art (difficulty screen, bestiary, profiles, etc)

  • All of the monsters in the first dungeon are now animated!

    • The only "placeholder" animations are for the Venus Flytrap, which I have to line and color.

  • All of the class icons are now in the game.

  • Some bug fixes related to battle mode.

  • Probably some other things I'm forgetting about.

Yep, the game's starting to feel really good to me! I'm going for an SMT feel, so please don't be alarmed if you die really fast. Haha.

Unfortunately, I submitted the full version of the game's build too late, so the only version available now is the demo. But as of right now, they're both the same, so try it out anyway! There's still a lot of visual improvements to be made (I ended up not adding anything to the Westwood Kingdom at all, even though I kept planning on it...) and I still have to do the overdrive animations, and some other smaller ones too, but I think I made a good amount of progress since the last build regardless. I'll try to get everything done by January, which would be an awesome time to start adding in Chapter 2!

I'm really happy with the progress I made in 2024, even with everything that was going on (moving into my house, having two jobs, getting burned out sometimes.) I think by the end of 2025 I'll be able to work on the game full time, which would be awesome. Also, I've gotten a lot more fans! Sure, still in the single digits, but hey. Even one other person who thinks my game is cool is enough for me. I'll be able to start marketing it more as it gets more polished, so look forward to that.

So, what's next? I'm really going to try and model the rest of the Westwood Kingdom as soon as I can. Then, I can add the rest of Chapter 1 in, and start on the game's very first mystery case! (Ooh!) Just as a reminder, I already have the entire game written. All I have to do is put it in the game engine. So, don't worry about delays due to writing!

I hope you enjoy the updated demo, and Happy New Year!
